Marcato, one of South Africa’s most promising music groups, has won over audiences with their interesting fusion of folk, country, bluegrass and acoustic rock styles. Marcato, a musical term and Italian word meaning “emphasis on notes”, comprises five musicians who are passionate to make music that matters.

Marcato, formed in 2008 by long-time friends, has since increased in size and refined their quality. The group have made appearances at many well-known festivals such as Aardklop, KKNK and Innibos and have performed at various venues across the country.

Marcato is known for their energetic live performances and diverse musical styles. The band plays live music for private functions and corporate events and perform original material as well as a selection of covers. They have also been involved in various tribute shows such as Simon & Garfunkel , Bob Dylan and AC/DC.

Marcato’s debut album When His Whistle Blows was released in 2011 and boasts 13 original acoustic folk ballads. This English and Afrikaans album also features the song 100 000 keer which received radio and television play.
